2008 North American International Auto Show Welcomes Industry Insiders
DETROIT, Dec. 29 -- Automotive industry insiders will converge at Cobo Center in Detroit for the 2008 North American International Auto Show on Wednesday, Jan. 16 from noon to 9 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 17 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
NAIAS 2008 Industry Preview, co-sponsored by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Business Week, offers a unique opportunity for automotive companies to invite their key contacts, suppliers and employees to preview the show. Industry Preview attracts thousands of industry professionals each year to the NAIAS for important meetings and networking events at the show and throughout metro Detroit.
"Each year we look forward to hosting this exclusive opportunity for industry professionals to get a preview of the many fantastic attractions at the NAIAS," said Carl Galeana, senior co-chairman for the NAIAS 2008. Nokia World 2007: Nokia outlines its vision of Internet evolution
Amsterdam, The Netherlands - At the annual Nokia World conference this month, Nokia outlined its vision for the mobile industry, predicting rapid change driven by the convergence of mobility and the internet, and the need for the industry to make an increasing contribution to environmental sustainability.
In his keynote address, Nokia president and CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo highlighted Nokia's commitment to driving both trends. Speaking to an audience of some 2,700 delegates who had gathered in Amsterdam to experience Nokia's vision of the mobility industry's future, Kallasvuo said: "We are at the dawn of a new era in mobile communications driven by the rapid convergence of the internet and mobility, and Nokia is setting the pace of change. But with market leadership in an industry of this scale also comes responsibility," he said. "We are committed to taking a leading role in increasing environmental awareness and performance right across the industry, creating further products and services that help people make more sustainable choices. SYLVANIA Applauds Energy Bill Lighting Efficiency Standards
New law will give Americans more energy-saving choices
OSRAM SYLVANIA, the maker of SYLVANIA lighting products, has announced its support for the energy bill being signed into law by President Bush. The legislation calls for a phase-out of inefficient light bulbs, starting in 2012. The new law is expected to increase demand for energy saving lights, resulting in new products and lower prices.
OSRAM SYLVANIA and its parent company pioneered the compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulb and together rank as the world's second-largest producer of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The company produces more than 50 different ENERGY STAR-rated light bulbs, including dimmable, 3-way and globe-shaped CFL designs, as well as the SYLVANIA Micro Mini Twist bulb, the smallest CFL available in North America.

Washington, D.C. - At a traditional luncheon with prominent speakers hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, Daimler Chairman Dr. Dieter Zetsche presented the smart fortwo to representatives of U.S. businesses and government as an environmentally friendly solution for future mobility. Starting in January, the compact model, which has already been very successful in Europe with about 850,000 units sold, will also be available in the U.S.
In his presentation to the high-profile audience in Washington, Dr. Zetsche expressed his conviction that the smart fortwo will be a resounding success in the U.S. as well. The reason is that the smallest model produced by Mercedes-Benz Cars is a standout -- not only because of its unique compact design and intelligent, safety-oriented construction, but also thanks to its low fuel consumption and exemplary environmental friendliness. INTEL MARKS 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRANSISTOR
Intel, the world's largest manufacturer of computer chips, has recently introduced its 45 nanometer (nm) next-generation family of quad-core processors. Called the biggest transistor advancement in 40 years by Intel Co-Founder Gordon Moore, the processors are the first to use Intel's Hafnium-based high-k metal gate (Hi-k) formula for the hundreds of millions of transistors inside these processors. Introduced on Nov. 12 and continuing into the next few months, this latest innovation is enabling servers, everyday PCs and laptops to become smaller, faster and more energy-efficient.
Intel Corporation on Dec. 16 celebrates the 60th anniversary of the transistor, the building block of today's digital world.
