Siemens puts its mobile ticket vending machine on track.
Starting today, some 13 million people in eleven German cities and regions can pay for their bus and train tickets via mobile phone using standardized software. The system will be tested over a two year period.
It was developed by member companies and groups of the Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen (VDV, Association of German Transport Companies) and Siemens IT Solutions and Services, DVB LogPay and the Fraunhofer Institute IVI in Dresden. Siemens developed and will operate the IT solution for the duration of the pilot. Participating cities include Chemnitz, Essen, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Luebeck, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Ulm, Wuppertal and the Oberlausitz and Vogtland regions. |GlobalGiants.com|

EvoBus GmbH wins major contract from Czech Republic for 600 Mercedes-Benz Intouro intercity buses : GlobalGiants.com
In the city of Prague, the privately owned group ICOM transport a.s. signed a contract with the DaimlerChrysler subsidiary EvoBus GmbH to purchase a total of 600 Mercedes-Benz Intouro intercity buses. The vehicles will be delivered over a period of five years, with 100 buses being handed over this year, and 300 in 2008.
The new Mercedes-Benz Intouro is an economical high-floor bus especially designed for interurban traffic as well as excursions and school service. The Intouro is manufactured in Turkey at the state-of-the-art Hosdere plant near Istanbul, which was extensively expanded in 2005. |GlobalGiants.com|

PARIS, March 15 -- On March 15, 2007, the Lorraine Region inaugurated, along with French National Railways (Réseau Ferré de France), the first phase of a high-speed rail link (Ligne à Grande Vitesse) connecting Vaires-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne) to Baudrecourt (Moselle-Lorraine). Starting in June 2007, the East European TGV will cover the first 300 kilometers of the LGV at a record speed of 320 km/hr. On this occasion, the longest ever string of Bengal lights lit up the LGV's route with 3,000 red torches. Air Bridge Cargo, a subsidiary of Volga-Dnepr Group, will operate the airplanes valued at $ 1.4 billion at list prices. With this order, Volga-Dnepr becomes the seventh customer announced for the new 747-8 Freighter, joining Atlas Air, Cargolux, Emirates, Guggenheim Aviation Partners, Nippon Cargo Airlines and Korean Air. The S 416 HDH, a new generation TopClass 400 touring coach, was handed over to bus company Arnold Reisen in Dietmannsried, near Kempten in the German Allgäu region, at the end of February 2007. It was also the 30,000th vehicle to be built since the establishment of the EvoBus GmbH company, under whose management Setra touring coaches and rural regular-service buses have been developed, produced and sold since 1995. Moscow, February 28, 2007 -- The average speed in the Russian capital during rush hour is rarely more than 6 km/h (4 mph). In order to improve flow and safety on the city's "Third ring" motorway, Siemens installed a comprehensive traffic control system. 94 detector systems record traffic densities, speeds and vehicle data. 75 video cameras observe traffic incidents and automatically recognize traffic jams and accidents. Four weather stations measure temperature, precipitation and visibility. A 45-km (28 mi.) high-speed fiber-optic communications system transmits the data to the central control computer for analysis, which is connected in turn to the three tunnel control centers and the traffic management control center for the city of Moscow. This generates information about the traffic situation and speed management that, with the help of 250 variable message signs and information panels, helps drivers reach their destinations. |GlobalGiants.com|
