Stuttgart & Leipzig, Germany — A Porsche is by far more than just a car: Porsche stands for an outstanding driving experience, timeless design, strong emotions and a special lifestyle. Two German actresses, Claudia Eisinger and Julia Dietze had the opportunity to find this out for themselves on the Porsche racing track in Leipzig on 11 July. Under the guidance of the Porsche Carrera Cup racing driver, Michelle Gatting, they both demonstrated their skills on Porsche’s own racing track. They both took on the challenging circuit at full tilt and it was clear to see that they were having a lot of fun. “I once sat in a Porsche and ever since then I have dreamt of driving one at full speed. The experience I had with Porsche in Leipzig today was better than I ever could have imagined: unlimited fun while driving, top speeds, pure adrenaline - and yet I still felt completely safe”, said Claudia Eisinger.

Jackal and the Cave That Talked

Jackal, Panchatantra

Illustration: A Jackal.

There was once a lion in a part of a forest, and his name was Rough-Claw. One day he found nothing whatever to eat in his wanderings, and his throat was pinched by hunger. At sunset he came to a great mountain cave and went in, for he thought: “Surely, some animal will come into this cave during the night. I will hide and wait.”

Presently the owner of the cave, a jackal named Curd-Face, came to the door and began to sing: “Cave ahoy! Cave aho-o-oy!” Then after a moment’s silence, he continued in the same tone: “Hello! Don’t you remember how you and I made an agreement that I was to speak to you when I came back from the world outside, and that you were to sing out to me? But you won’t speak to me today. So I am going off to that other cave, which will return my greeting.”

Now when he heard this, the lion thought: “I see. This cave always calls out a greeting when the fellow returns. But today, from fear of me, it doesn’t say a word. This is natural enough. For

The feet and hands refuse to act
When peril terrifies;
A trembling seizes every limb;
And speech unuttered dies.

“I will myself call out a greeting, which he will follow to its source, so providing me with a dinner.”

The lion thereupon called out a greeting. But the cave so magnified the roar that its echo filled the circuit of the horizon, thus terrifying other forest creatures as well, even those far distant. Meanwhile, the jackal made off into the forest, singing and repeating the stanza:

“Joy comes from knowing what to dread,
And sorrow smites the dunderhead:
A long life through, the woods I’ve walked
But never heard a cave that talked.”

— Tales of Panchatantra. Translator: Arthur William Ryder (Professor of Sanskrit at the University of California, Berkeley).

Mumbai — Porsche India has partnered with the organisation ‘Women Beyond Boundaries’ (WBB) on a 20-day expedition across the Himalayas. Nidhi Tiwari, founder of the organisation, will showcase “women’s empowerment through mobility” by driving the 4,000 km route through challenging terrain together with her navigator Neha Sadananda. Porsche India will be providing a Cayenne for this trip set to commence on 18 June from Gurgaon. The drive will test the Cayenne’s endurance on some of the highest motorways in the world and test its off-road capabilities across different terrain as well as riverbeds.

‘Women Beyond Boundaries’ (WBB) is an organization which runs extreme overland journeys (XOL) that push boundaries to achieve empowerment through mobility. As part of its core mission, WBB showcases mobility solutions adopted by women in the remote areas through which they traverse. In keeping with this objective the WBB team will also train local women in Ladakh on the topic of XOL driving to motivate their movement between remote communities. This will be done with the help of the local administration and community participation. In addition, the expedition will also interact with local communities to spread awareness on women’s health in collaboration with a reputed local NGO.

Speaking about the project, Pavan Shetty, Director of Porsche India, said: “We are absolutely delighted to partner with WBB on this unique initiative and see their activities as an essential contribution in the overall progress of women’s empowerment. Through this expedition, we want to support this cause and also showcase the endurance of the Cayenne in some of the most remote places in the world.”

The Porsche Cayenne Diesel provided will be driven across more than a dozen high-altitude passes, including Khardung La and Marsimik La, two of the highest motorable passes in the world. Featuring a powerful three-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine, the model produces 245 hp (180 kW) and has a top speed of 221 km/h. Its eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox will be convenient during the on-road sections of the planned route. When leaving the tarmac, the Cayenne’s three off-road modes ensure maximum support for the driver. Assistance systems offering improved traction on loose, wet and snow affected surfaces include Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Porsche Hill Control, and Porsche Air Suspension Management (PASM).

Nidhi Tiwari, founder of WBB, said: “We are glad to partner with Porsche India for such an initiative. With the spirit of women empowerment, and a sensitive cause of women’s health in the remotest corners of the country, we believe in going beyond all perceived and conventional boundaries. We are equally excited to get behind the wheel of the Porsche Cayenne on some of the most unique roads in the world.”

The 4,000 km expedition will start from Porsche Centre, Gurgaon, north of Delhi, on Saturday, 18th June. Nidhi Tiwari and Neha Sadananda are expected to complete the route in 20 days.
