India Government announces Safe City Project

New Delhi, February 13, 2019 — With a view to providing safety to women in public places, the Government of India’s Empowered Committee of Officers for Safe City Project has approved pilot Safe City Projects in the following eight Selected Metropolitan Cities:

  1. Delhi
  2. Kolkata
  3. Mumbai
  4. Chennai
  5. Bengaluru
  6. Hyderabad
  7. Ahmedabad
  8. Lucknow

The total cost of the projects would be Rs. 3,000 crore approximately.

The cost of the projects would be shared between the Central Government and the concerned States in 60:40 ratio. The Central Government would fully fund the Safe City Project in Delhi.
