New Delhi, December 28, 2018 — To commemorate the 200th Birth Anniversary of the Sikh philosopher, reformer, and freedom fighter, Sri Satguru Ram Singh Ji, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized an International Seminar in New Delhi in collaboration with Kuka Martyrs Memorial Trust and the Indian Ministry of Culture. The Minister of State for Culture and Environment, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, inaugurated the seminar.

His Holiness Sri Satguru Uday Singh Ji; Sardar Prem Singh Chandumajra, MP Lok Sabha; Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University Chandigarh; Sardar Tarlochan Singh, Ex-MP Rajya Sabha; Sardar H. S. Hanspal, Ex-MP Rajya Sabha; and Sardar S. S. Namdhari, Vice Chairman Kuka Martyrs Memorial Trust & President Vishav Namdhari Sangat; were present at the function.

Inaugurating the seminar, the Minister of State for Culture and Environment, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, said that Sri Satguru Ram Singh was a great spiritual guru, a thinker, a seer, philosopher, social reformer, and a freedom fighter. Around 150 years ago, he organized his followers for the noble cause of the freedom of the country. The Culture Minister said that whatever he was preaching or practicing in the 19th Century, is equally good in the 21st century as well.

Praising the ideology of the Satguru, Dr. Mahesh Sharma said that he advocated reverence for the cow, simple wedding ceremonies, widow remarriage and mass marriages with minimal expenditure.

The Satguru was a great social reformer. He started a new mass marriage system wherein his followers performed the marriages by spending a Rupee and Twenty Five Paisa only. Satguru Ram Singh banned the dowry and inculcated religious awareness among his followers, the Minister said.
