The Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu, has said that every student must be disciplined and have an outlook for the development of the country. Education should make us humble and help us in becoming a useful person. He was addressing the 31st Convocation of the Kurukshetra University, in Kurukshetra, Haryana today.

“It is my good fortune that today I have had the opportunity to be among all of you in this sacred “Karmabhoomi” and the birthplace of the Bhagavad Gita. This virtuous land is not only a special place in the state of Haryana but also in India and in the mind of millions of Indians. Kurukshetra, which has been called ‘Dharmakshetra’ in the Bhagavad Gita, has been a symbol of the cultural, spiritual and material prosperity of our civilization over the centuries,” Mr. Naidu said.

“In the 21st century, research, innovation, and technical knowledge are the basic tenets of success. In the direction of establishing a knowledge-based society, we will need these three. That’s why our academics and students need to make these three basic mantras a part of their work culture,” Mr. Naidu told the audience.

Meanwhile, it is interesting to note that under Categorization of Universities for Grant of Graded Autonomy Regulations 2018, the University Grants Commission has declared Kurukshetra University a “Category 1” university, which makes it relatively superior to the much celebrated Panjab University Chandigarh in its neighborhood.

Panjab University Chandigarh (an offshoot of the University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan) is a “Category 2” university.
