America Watches East Tennessee Newlywed Win $2.5 Million Grand Prize Package During Live HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2007 : GlobalGiants.com
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn., March 19 -- Always considered lucky when it comes to winning sweepstakes, 69-year-old Robert O'Neill was still surprised that the luck of the Irish was with him Sunday night when he learned that he was the winner of the 2007 HGTV Dream Home located in the Bridger's Cache Community of Winter Park, Colorado. O'Neill, who recently retired as Postmaster in Brandon, Florida, moved to upper East Tennessee to be closer to friends and family. He and his wife of six months were having dinner out with his son's family and friends when HGTV's Joan Steffend came out of the kitchen at a local restaurant bearing the news along with dessert. His surprise at receiving the news was broadcast around the country as part of HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2007, a live television special that aired on Sunday, March 18, 2007.
O'Neill, whose name was drawn from more than 41 million entries, took home the grand-prize package with a retail value of $2.5 million.
