Stuttgart – On October 21st, 33 E-Class cars with clean diesel drive started on a fascinating long-distance drive covering around 13,600 kilometres from Paris to Beijing. The symbolic bridging between Europe and Asia over long stretches of the journey followed the route of the first transcontinental car race in history, which started exactly 99 years ago from Peking to Paris. The winner reached his destination in 62 days. With the modern E-Class cars, Mercedes-Benz accomplished this journey, parts of which are unpassable areas, in only 26 days. The sporting challenge for the roughly 330 participants from 35 nations was to achieve the lowest possible fuel consumption for the separate stages and the overall distance.

With this automotive marathon, Mercedes-Benz once again demonstrated the capabilities of its latest diesel engines with respect to emissions, economy and operating range, even under the most extreme conditions.

Five legs from Europe to Asia

After the start in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower on 21 October, the route of the ”E-Class Experience” initially led through France, Germany, Poland and the Baltics to St. Petersburg, where the first change of drivers took place after seven days. In this case, the route followed the path of the legendary first transcontinental automobile race held 99 years ago, which ran in the opposite direction from Beijing to Paris and wrote automotive history.

In many places the convoy was spontaneously surrounded and joyfully greeted by local people who appreciated their striking and unusual design. All participating E-Class cars are decorated with the flags of the participating nations, in order to underline the internationality of the long distance drive.

The longest diesel marathon of all times ended successfully in Beijing. The 36 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cars, which left Paris on 21 October on a transcontinental rally covering about 14,000 kilometres, arrived safe and sound in the Chinese capital after traversing Europe and Asia. Through this endurance test under extreme conditions Mercedes-Benz has once again demonstrated the outstanding performance of its modern diesel engines in terms of emissions, fuel economy and reliability. Proof of this is also the fuel consump-tion of the victorious “Ebay” team which won the fuel economy contest with an average of 7.19 l/100 km diesel. The best result on a daily leg was as low as 5.5 l/100 km.

During the five legs of the ”E-Class Experience" more than 360 drivers from 35 countries took turns at the steering wheels of the diesel sedans. In only 25 driving days they passed through nine countries under partly extreme conditions, such as snow and ice, as well as unpaved roads. The average daily driving distance was about 560 kilometres. Together with the 24 escort vehicles, which ranged from the G-Classes of the Mercedes-Benz crew and technical trucks to the mobile Aral diesel service station, the marathon entourage covered a total road distance of about 840,000 kilometers. These images illustrate life and culture as expressed through music over the past 40 years. Appearing for the second year at the Nordstrom exhibit, Kamoinge is a group of New York City-based photographers whose work has been featured in books, museums, newspapers and magazines throughout the United States. Kamoinge (a Swahili word meaning "a group of people acting together") was established in 1963 in Harlem to alleviate the sense of photographic isolation generally felt by black photographers. Today their mission has evolved to produce visual images of time that reflect human relationships, political and social interactions and the spiritual world of imagery. Nordstrom has recognized Black History Month over the past five years with in-store exhibits.

The exhibit will feature 11 photographers: Salimah Ali, Anthony BarBoza, Mark Lee Blackshear, Adger Cowans, Gerald Cyrus, Colette Fournier, Herbert Randall, Herb Robinson, Radcliffe Roye, Jamel Shabazz, and Shawn Walker.

The one-off special has an all-new body with an almost classic flavour and with clearly defined lines and vibrant two-tone paintwork which are exceptionally charismatic. Although on one level the Concept Ocean Drive displays the restraint of an elite and aristocratic automobile, it is also an open invitation to go on a "top-less" cruise along the world's finest ocean promenades. Luxurious, exotic materials have been crafted with consummate skill to create a showpiece of unparalleled perfection.

The unique luxury convertible design study from Stuttgart turns a "dream car" vision into reality. Styling conveys effortless superiority and elegance

Apart from the four doors, the outward distinguishing marks of the concept car include a very large and upright radiator grille, LED headlamps and taillights, two-tone paintwork and a striking interplay between taut lines and large, restful surfaces. This lends the one-off special an air of effortless superiority, power, elegance and forward-flowing energy.

The long side-window opening which, typically of a convertible, is not interrupted by a B-pillar or window frames, ensures seamless continuity between the exterior and the interior, even when the top is up. Extensive use of high-value materials –such as finest-quality leather, 3D-effect materials and large bird's eye maple trim panels (in the interior and even on the soft-top compartment cover) – and many other thoughtfully designed interior details, highlight the luxurious, unique character of this design study.

Boeing test pilots took the first KC-767 Tanker slated for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force on its maiden flight Dec. 21.

"This first flight represents an enormous step in meeting Japan's strategic self-defense needs," said Maj. Kenji Nagatomo, Japan on-site Tanker program liaison. "We are looking forward to having our first KC-767 enter service in 2007. The aircraft has great flexibility in its aerial refueling and cargo capabilities, and will help Japan provide aid to the world's population during major natural disasters."

Stuttgart, Germany, Dec., 2006 -- For the very first time on US soil: the new smart fortwo, is celebrating its USA premiere at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit (January 7 to 21, 2007). The new smart fortwo will be available in the USA beginning in the first quarter of 2008. The car shown in Detroit is an European version of the new smart fortwo. Model lines to be available in the United States will be announced at later date.

smart, like Mercedes-Benz and Maybach, is part of the Mercedes Car Group. The exhibition stand is directly opposite Chrysler and Dodge in Oakland Hall (inside Cobo Center). Written in large letters on the stand are the words "Coming to the USA in 2008". And right in front of it -- a smart fortwo with red bodypanels and a silver tridion safety cell.

GM Holden’s export vehicle, the Australian-built Chevrolet Caprice, won the Best Luxury Car Award at the 2006 Autocar Middle East Awards December 2006.

The judging panel praised the all-new Caprice which emerged after three days of solid testing as a clear winner from the other finalists in its class, the Volvo S80 V8 All-wheel drive and the Lexus ES350.

The process undertaken by Autocar’s team of expert judges involved three days and nearly 36 hours of analysing and testing.

“The Caprice represents unbeatable value given its list of standard features, size and that six-litre V8 engine,” Autocar Editor and chief judge, Damien Reid said.

“Given that it’s an all-new model, our judges were impressed by the improvement in build quality, ride and overall refinement over the previous model. As it was judged against its competitors the panel found this latest version had retained many qualities which makes this style of car so popular to Middle Eastern customers,” Mr Reid added.

GM Holden dispatched its first shipment of all-new generation export versions of Commodore, Statesman and Caprice to its largest export market, the Middle East, in September 2006.

The cars, prepared as the Chevrolet Lumina and Chevrolet Caprice, are exported throughout the Middle East as part of GM Australia’s longest and largest automotive export program. [GlobalGiants.com]

Prius achieves its remarkable fuel efficiency while providing the kind of performance customers expect from a four-cylinder, automatic transmission midsize car, with zero-to-60 mph acceleration in about 10 seconds.

• Dramatic Design, Midsize Roominess and Outstanding Utility

The Prius rides on a 106.3-inch wheelbase that allows generous interior room and a smooth ride. The five-door liftback design not only looks like nothing else on the road, it is also one of the most aerodynamic production vehicles in America. Its super-low 0.26 coefficient of drag (Cd) helps to minimize interior noise and enhance fuel mileage.

With its "monoform" design, the Prius provides 96.2 cubic feet of passenger room, making it a midsize car. The rear seat in Prius provides a generous 38.6 inches of legroom. Rear cargo room measures 14.4 cubic feet. The liftback design, combined with the standard 60/40 split fold-down rear seatbacks, gives the Prius outstanding cargo capacity and flexibility.

• Hybrid Synergy Drive

The current Prius was the first Toyota product to employ Hybrid Synergy Drive, the company's third-generation gas-electric hybrid powertrain technology. Hybrid Synergy Drive is defined as a "full hybrid system," which means it is capable of operating in gas or electric modes, as well as a mode that combines the power of the gas engine and electric motor.

In the Prius, Hybrid Synergy Drive combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson Cycle gasoline engine and an electric drive motor. The gasoline engine produces 76 horsepower and 82 lb.-ft. of torque. As on all other Toyota passenger car engines, Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) helps to optimize power delivery across the engine speed range.

The permanent-magnet electric drive motor produces its maximum power of 50 kW (67 horsepower) from 1,200-1,540 RPM, and peak torque of 295 lb.-ft. from 0-1,200 RPM. The Prius produces 110 combined horsepower with its gas engine and electric motor.

The electronically controlled planetary gear-type continuously variable transmission does not have fixed gear ratios, but rather provides infinitely variable ratios in response to driving conditions.

A regenerative braking system further boosts system efficiency: when the Prius is coasting or the brakes are applied, the electric motor functions as a generator, capturing kinetic energy that would normally be lost as heat through the brakes and transforming it into useable electricity to recharge the batteries.

• Driving Prius

One of the most remarkable features of the Toyota Prius is what the driver does not feel. The computer-controlled powertrain seamlessly blends power from the gasoline engine, the electric drive motor and the generator. The driver typically does not feel the vehicle changing operational modes.

The Prius uses an electronically controlled "by-wire" throttle. A by-wire shift control replaces the traditional gearshift lever and allows tap-of-the-finger shifting using a small joystick mounted on the dash.

The Prius driver can monitor electric-gas power distribution through the Hybrid Synergy Drive system on the standard seven-inch touch-panel display monitor. This screen also displays navigation information on vehicles equipped with the optional navigation system.

• The Most Stringent Emissions Certification

The Prius produces over 70 percent fewer smog-forming emissions than the average new vehicle. The Prius has been certified as a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) in California and those states adopting California standards. In the rest of the country, Prius is certified as Tier 2, Bin 3. In addition, In California and states adopting the California rules, Prius is certified as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV). The AT-PZEV certification requires the SULEV exhaust standard linked with the ability to meet a zero-fuel-evaporative standard, a 150,000-mile durability demonstration, extended emissions system warranty, and technology deemed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to advance future fuel cell vehicles.

• Advanced Safety

Prius is engineered to provide the level of safety that a family car buyer expects. Passive safety features include front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters, three-point seatbelts for all rear seating positions, advanced dual front airbags, and standard driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear side curtain airbags.

The driver and passenger advanced dual-stage front airbags inflate according to collision severity. A front seat passenger sensor is equipped with an occupant classification system to verify the front passengers' weight category to determine whether the airbag should inflate.

An available back-up camera automatically projects an image of what the lens can detect behind the vehicle onto the dash-mounted LCD display when the vehicle is in reverse gear.

Prius also features a high level of dynamic driving control. The standard anti-lock brake system (ABS) integrates Brake Assist and Electronic Brake-force Distribution. Brake Assist can help apply maximum braking pressure in an emergency stop.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is available as an option. VSC helps keep the vehicle going on its intended course by detecting front-wheel slide and rear-wheel slide during cornering and attempting to control either condition with torque intervention and/or by braking individual wheels.

A standard tire pressure monitoring system can detect a significant loss in pressure in one or more tires and alert the driver by a warning light.

• Premium Amenities

The Prius offers the amenities expected in the midsize class. Premium seat fabric and a textured instrument panel center accent the high-tech interior styling. Prius offers enhanced comfort with the option of luxurious leather seating (choice of two colors) and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Customers can also order an audio system upgrade that features MP3 capability and a mini-jack port located in the center console. The mini-jack port enables connectivity by most portable music players and allows users to listen to their portable music collection through the audio system.

The standard automatic air conditioning system uses an electric-powered air compressor. Not only does this improve fuel efficiency, it ensures passenger comfort even when the car is running only on the electric motor.

The steering wheel features fingertip controls for both the air conditioning and the six-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system. A rear window intermittent wiper, cabin air filtration, cruise control, heated side mirrors, power windows and door locks and remote keyless entry are all standard on the Prius.

Boeing Delivers First 777-300ER to PIA

EVERETT, Wash., Dec. 22, 2006 -- Pakistan International Airlines today took delivery of its first of three Boeing [NYSE: BA] 777-300ERs on order. The newest member of PIAs long-haul, wide-body fleet departed Paine Field this morning en route to its new home base at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.

PIA is one of the first airlines to have ordered and taken delivery of three variants of Boeings highly successful 777 family, and the airline was the launch customer for the 777-200LR (Longer Range). PIA currently has three 777-200ERs and two 777-200LRs in operation and will take delivery in February of a second 777-300ER, as well as an additional 777-200ER on lease from ILFC.

PIAs first 777-300ER (shown here departing Paine Field) incorporates a unique tail schematic that is representative of the Sind southern province of Pakistan, with Karachi being the provincial capital. The airline has outfitted its 777-200LRs with similar tail designs representing other major Pakistan provinces.

"PIA is a very important Boeing customer and it's rewarding to see the airline receive its first 777-300ER," said Miguel Santos, Boeing Commercial Airplanes international sales director. On Dec. 20, the Edge campaign featuring Kelis will begin with a creative radio spot featuring the song that Kelis created specifically for the campaign titled, “Push it to the Edge.” The song flows with a strong hip-hop beat to the following lyrics:

The spot also features a cameo introduction of Kelis by hip-hop DJ Funkmaster Flex. The spot will air on national syndicated radio shows like The Steve Harvey Morning Show and The Tom Joyner Morning Show. Kelis is scheduled to participate in various Edge sweepstakes giveaways on these shows beginning in February.

The Edge urban television commercial, titled “On the Edge,” stars Kelis and features the song. The ad opens with the Edge making a red carpet appearance in front of a captive paparazzi crowd. The photographers cannot keep their lens off the Edge as the optional panoramic Vista Roof™ slowly opens to reveal Kelis dressed to impress for a VIP event. The ad will begin airing in late December on major television networks throughout the USA.

The Kelis song and the new urban Edge campaign will be an integral part of Ford’s new urban Web site, www.fordurban.com. The Web site will begin in late December with a targeted focus toward Edge buyers and eventually extend to the entire Ford brand line-up of car, trucks, SUVs and crossovers.

Boeing Delivers First 747-400ER Freighter to TNT, Guggenheim Aviation Partners

SEATTLE, Dec. 20, 2006 -- Boeing, TNT and Guggenheim Aviation Partners (GAP) celebrated the delivery of both customers first 747-400ER Freighter. The milestone airplane was delivered to GAP and will be put into service by TNT, the Netherlands-based global express and mail delivery services company.

TNT currently operates a fleet of 46 aircraft that includes six Boeing 737 Freighters and one Boeing 757 Freighter. The company will add a second 747-400ER Freighter to its fleet in spring 2007, in cooperation with GAP.

Investment funds managed by GAP currently own a fleet of 31 Boeing aircraft. Todays delivery is the first from an order for six 747-400ER Freighters placed in June 2005. The U.S.-based aviation investment firm placed additional orders earlier this year for four 747-8 Freighters and three 777 Freighters.

EVERETT, Wash., Dec. 2006 -- The Boeing Company delivered its 600th 777 airplane to Singapore Airlines. The 777 program reached the milestone after 11 years in service, faster than any other twin-aisle airplane program in history.

The 777 family of airplanes is the market leader in the 300-to-400-seat segment, consistently capturing more than 60 percent of that market since the airplane was launched. To date, Boeing has sold 889 777 jetliners, with 49 customers around the world that own or operate the efficient and passenger-pleasing twin-aisle airplane.

NEW YORK, NY - Citigroup, MasterCard Worldwide, Cingular Wireless and Nokia today announced a consumer technology trial of Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled mobile phones with MasterCard PayPass(TM) contactless payment capability in New York City. The goal of this trial is to evaluate the speed and convenience that "tap and go" payments made through mobile phones can provide to Citi credit cards and Cingular customers in the New York City area. The trial is expected to run three to six months.

Pre-selected Citi MasterCard cardholders with Cingular Wireless accounts are participating in the trial and will receive Nokia NFC-enabled mobile phones with MasterCard PayPass payment functionality. MasterCard PayPass is a "contactless" payment program that provides consumers with a fast and convenient way to pay.

2007 Detroit Motor Show: Mitsubishi Motors to unveil "Prototype-X" concept

Next-generation high-performance 4WD sport sedan.

Tokyo, December 18, 2006 — Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. (MMNA, based in Cypress California) will give the Mitsubishi Lancer compact sport sedan (U.S. market model) its global premiere and will also unveil the Prototype X concept for a next-generation high-performance 4WD sport sedan at the 2007 North American International Auto Show (the Detroit Motor Show). The 2007 NAIAS runs from January 7 to 21 at the Cobo Center in Detroit and opens to the general public on January 13.

The Prototype-X concept car on show is an advance development model for the new Lancer Evolution due to be launched in the 2007 fiscal year. Embodying Mitsubishi Motors' trademark "fun to drive" qualities throughout, Prototype-X features styling based on the current Lancer but was developed to project a visibly higher performance image. The concept model is fitted with Mitsu-bishi's S-AWC*1 (Super All-Wheel Control) vehicle dynamics system that delivers the ultimate in four-wheel drive traction and handling control together with a new turbocharged MIVEC*2 engine with an aluminum cylinder block and a high performance 6-speed manual transmission.

Lufthansa further expands Airbus A340-600 long-range fleet

Lufthansa German Airlines is expanding its Airbus long-range fleet with an order for seven additional Airbus A340-600 aircraft. The new order raises the total number of A340s in Lufthansa's fleet to 52. With this order Airbus passes the milestone of 1000 aircraft sales of the A330/A340 Family.

The A340-600s will have about 300 seats in a three-class configuration and will be delivered from early 2008. Lufthansa plans to use the aircraft on high passenger demand long haul routes out of Frankfurt and Munich, to destinations like the US West Coast and Asia.

Lufthansa is one of the longest standing and largest Airbus customers worldwide, and one of the launch customers for the A340. Currently Lufthansa has nearly 140 Airbus aircraft in its mainline fleet.

DETROIT – When hundreds of thousands of 2007 North American International Auto Show visitors step inside the 121,000-square-foot General Motors exhibit beginning Jan. 13, they’ll experience more than beautifully designed and executed cars and trucks. The all-new GM exhibit – the show’s largest – will be transformed into the auto show equivalent of an art gallery.

A more intuitive layout supported by enhanced, high-tech overhead and vehicle lighting; open spaces and clean lines; minimalist architecture and premium materials will allow visitors to experience GM’s eight distinctive brands in unique, gallery-type settings within a unified, GM-themed environment. GM Design played a key role in the vision and execution of this year’s exhibit, taking an esthetic approach remarkably similar to its globally influenced vehicle design process.

The individual brand displays surround GM’s corporate exhibit, featuring LED screens and projected laser images on glass that demonstrate GM’s vision for reinventing the automobile. During the media preview, the space will be used for major vehicle launches. For the public, the space will be transformed into a dramatic vehicle design and technology display highlighting GM’s leadership in design, technology, safety, quality and fuel efficiency.

“While the stars of the show are the vehicles, we wanted the exhibit space to reflect the corporation’s design-driven direction in a way that complements the brand essence of each vehicle and the overall GM brand,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president, Global Design. “The finest work deserves to be displayed in the best galleries, and I believe we’ve accomplished that with this exhibit.”

Visitors will know they’ve arrived at a special destination the moment they approach the exhibit, with its dramatic center entrance featuring a stainless steel ribbon 261 feet wide and 26 feet high, sporting a jeweled GM corporate logo. Five award-winning global concept vehicles will be positioned at the entrance to reinforce the strength of GM vehicle design and future products.

Throughout the exhibit, 615 linear feet of LED lighting will be suspended above visitors’ heads, complemented by additional lighting in the brand displays that bathes the vehicles in light. Each of the brand areas will have back wall video projection for product messages, as well as synchronized corporate messages.

Here’s a tour of GM’s 2007 North American International Auto Show exhibit:

Chevrolet: GM’s largest brand builds on a global auto show concept called “Chevy Moments.” The display consists of a series of graphic towers, feature vehicle displays and LED screens, along with unique flooring that defines specific vehicle areas. Chevrolet is unveiling the new 2008 Malibu at the Detroit show.

Cadillac: The display for GM’s luxury marque is inspired by the sharp lines and faceted architecture of its vehicles. It features an angular ceiling canopy, premium materials such as frosted glass and stainless steel surfaces, and high-tech lighting that befits Cadillac’s technology legacy. Cadillac is revealing the new 2008 CTS at the Detroit show.

GMC: Professional Grade goes decidedly upscale with an all-new space that features textured blue steel, precast concrete, and chrome, perforated metal that evokes the grille design of GMC’s premier Denali lineup. Mechanical elements abound, executed with style and precision.

HUMMER: Capability is the name of the game, and GM’s go-anywhere, do-anything vehicles are displayed against a deep orange backdrop complemented by architectural cues such as massive ID plinths, concrete and glass floor panels.

Saab: Very clean and open with crisp, white surfaces and glass flooring, the Saab display features unique LED technology as well as LED screens that create a special product environment.

Saturn: As refreshing as its brand-new product lineup, the Saturn display breaks convention with unique architectural elements and distinctive materials. The “Aura Box” features bright Obscura projection technology focusing on the 2007 Aura Green Line hybrid.

Buick: The Buick environment exudes the premium elegance associated with its new design direction. It features sophisticated materials such as wood, polished stone tile and gossamer lighted fabric back walls that underscore the display’s water theme, and illuminated ceiling coves. A Buick Lucerne will showcase OnStar’s Turn-by-Turn Navigation technology on a windshield-projected narrative.

Pontiac: Pontiac's all-new display evokes the energy and atmosphere of a hip club. Polished stainless steel surfaces, gloss black paint and glass convey the brand’s seductive performance theme. The space comes alive with carefully choreographed sound, light and the use of video presentations that create excitement.

NEW YORK, Dec. 13 -- For her new studio album, Diana Ross has drawn inspiration from romantic songs that have touched her heart through the years, and she has dedicated the album to this most powerful universal emotion: love. "I Love You," to be released by Manhattan/EMI in CD and deluxe CD/DVD packages and digitally on January 16, presents 14 songs personally selected for the album by Diana Ross in appreciation of their timeless, classic expressions of love and romance, including a brand new song, "I Love You" a gentle ballad that captures the emotion of romance.

Recorded at multiple studios in Southern California, New York and London, "I Love You" features soaring orchestral arrangements to accompany the broad range and sensitivity of Ms. Ross' vocals, one of the world's most cherished musical instruments. The best players and singers from Los Angeles, New York and London were involved with the new album, and Ms. Ross attended every session, from the initial demos to tracking, overdubs and mixing. "When I was in the studio, sharing these songs, I was filled with strong emotion," says Ms. Ross. "These songs, these singers, these musicians and all my fans are a gift of love to me."

The CD's package includes stunning photos by Herb Ritts, Randee St. Nicholas and Douglas Kirkland and a letter to fans from Ms. Ross, who executive produced "I Love You." The package also contains notes from the album's co-executive producer, Marylata E. Jacob, a Grammy-nominated music supervisor and producer whose professional relationship with Ms. Ross spans 22 years, Peter Asher, who produced nine of the album's tracks, and who has collaborated with Ms. Ross on many of her most cherished recordings, and the producer of five of the album's tracks, Steve Tyrell, has produced many recordings with Ms. Ross including "Big Bad Love" with Ray Charles, and in 2005 produced her duet with Rod Stewart, "I've Got A Crush On You," the lead single from Stewart's "Thanks For The Memory: The Great American Songbook I." "I Love You"'s deluxe edition adds a DVD with a photo gallery and an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the new album.

Beginning and closing with Harry Nilsson's "Remember," the song that inspired Ms. Ross' vision for her new album, "I Love You" takes the listener on a vibrant journey through many of music's most timeless and recognizable affirmations of love. All of the songs chosen for the album are important and meaningful to Ms. Ross, from the sweet bounce of "More Today Than Yesterday," to the sultry allure of "I Want You," a song first recorded by Marvin Gaye that was co-written by Ms. Ross' brother, T-Boy Ross.

"We wanted to create the quintessential album to be played at celebrations of love and life: weddings, family gatherings, intimate moments," explains Marylata Jacob. "'I Love You' is Diana's personal offering to honor these celebrations of love, from the glance of your first true love, through the joy of children, and love everlasting."

Says Peter Asher, who returns to working with Diana having produced her 1991 hit album, "The Force Behind The Power," "I am proud that not only have Diana and I remained friends for 41 years, but that I have again been given the opportunity to work with her extraordinary voice in the studio. Her contribution in the studio was very significant, above and beyond her singing -- itself seemingly unchanged by the passing years in its emotional intensity and brilliance, yet having gained a certain wisdom and clarity that makes you believe every word she sings. On this record she tells us an eternal story, and does so with ineffable brilliance and accuracy."

The Songs:

"Remember" by Harry Nilsson inspired the album and its concept as Ms. Ross listened to it while reminiscing over her family's photo albums. Its dreaminess conjures up memories of love and present feelings. Ms. Ross feels a connection to Nilsson's work, as she has often performed songs from Nilsson's acclaimed musical, "The Point," in concert.

"More Today Than Yesterday"
is a classic first performed by Spiral Starecase in the mid-1960s. Destined to be an audience favorite at Ms. Ross' concerts, the song is also one of her favorites. Ms. Ross' fun and bouncy new recording of the song is an inspired tribute to the joy of everlasting love.

"I Want You," first recorded by Marvin Gaye in 1974, was co-written by Ms. Ross' beloved brother, T-Boy Ross, with Leon Ware. Ms. Ross delivers a smoldering, sultry take on this track that honors the original while making it wholly her own.

"I Love You (That's All That Really Matters)" is a new original song, a gorgeous, heartfelt ballad. The writer, Fred White, has been touring with Ms. Ross as a back-up singer for six years. His experience of her live persona and vocal range inspired this song, written specifically with Ms. Ross in mind. Ms. Ross fell in love with the song, saying, "To be loved for who you are is the deepest expression of the purest love, wholly selfless and spiritual."

"What About Love" was written for Oprah Winfrey's stage production of "The Color Purple." The composers are Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. Ms. Ross' relationship with Brenda Russell and her great friendship with Oprah inspired Ross' interest in the soundtrack, and she selected this powerful and moving song of love.

"The Look of Love" -- Ms. Ross captures all of its romance and anticipation. This classic song was written by two of the finest song writers of all time, Hal David and Burt Bacharach.

"Lovely Day" has a groove and a simple lyric that has universal appeal. "This song makes me dance," Ms. Ross says. "Everyone wants a lovely day." Written by Bill Withers.

"Take My Breath Away"
is the decade's quintessential love song. Ms. Ross adds her own signature style to it with her new recording. The original recording is by Berlin.

"Only You" -- A new version decidedly Ms. Ross. Growing up in Detroit, listening to records while slow dancing under a single source of light was as close to heaven as it could get for Diana Ross, her own personal experience of young love.

"To Be Loved" was written by the legendary Berry Gordy, Jr. and was originally recorded by Jackie Wilson in 1958. It is the ultimate declaration of love, and Ms. Ross deftly balances the emotion of the song's sensitive lyrics with an upbeat and boundless delivery.

"I Will" -- Paul McCartney's simplicity of lyric and song melody made it a welcomed song for the heart of "I Love You." Ms. Ross' sweet vocals and Peter Asher's long history with the Beatles brought a lovely perspective of range and depth to the new recording.

"This Magic Moment," originally recorded by the Drifters, is made brand new with Ms. Ross' rendition. With its calypso-leaning arrangement and backing vocals, Ms. Ross' new version really pops.

"You Are So Beautiful" -- The song was chosen for its universal message of love and kindness. "It reaches out and speaks not only to lovers, but to relationships of all kinds, mother to child, child to grandparent, sister to sister, friend to friend," says Ms. Ross.

"Always And Forever" was written by famed songwriter Rod Temperton and originally recorded by Heatwave. Ms. Ross brings her brilliant sensitivity and gorgeous vocal delivery to the timeless love song for a magical contemporary classic.

Closing the new album's romantic journey is a reprise of the song that started it all, "Remember."

DETROIT – Each January, the automotive world turns its attention to Detroit and the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). This year, the worlds of fashion and celebrity will also look to Detroit when General Motors hosts a celebration of automotive design in the shadow of the company’s world headquarters to kick off NAIAS media activities.

Named “GM Style,” an exclusive event is planned for Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007 . In addition to a number of famous GM vehicles -- some never before seen in North America -- GM is also inviting some of the hottest names in entertainment to join the vehicles for a walk – or drive – down the runway.

GM is finalizing the celebrity line-up. Currently confirmed are:

Cheryl Hines – Emmy-nominated actress from HBO’s hit comedy “Curb Your Enthusiasm”

Vivica A. Fox – Star of numerous films and television series, including the most-recent edition of “Dancing With The Stars”

Petra Nemcova – One of the world’s top supermodels and a regular in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues

Danny Masterson – Best-known for his role on “That 70’s Show,” Masterson will be the evening’s guest DJ

Rachel Zoe – This “stylist to the stars” will prep all the celebrities at GM Style.

“This event is a tribute to style and a celebration of GM’s design renaissance,” said Ed Welburn, global vice president, GM Design. “GM Style will bring Detroit a unique intersection of the worlds of fashion, automotive design and entertainment. Like Paris to the fashion industry and Los Angeles to entertainment, Detroit is the epicenter of auto design. GM's vehicles will take their rightful place on the runway along side some of today's top names in fashions and entertainment."

GM will construct a pavilion just east of the Renaissance Center on the Detroit River to host this salute to style. The pavilion, the first of its kind, will be longer than a football field, climate controlled and able to accommodate a runway for cars and stars.

“The GM Style event will be like none other at the North American International Auto Show,” said Mike Jackson, GM North America vice president, marketing and advertising. “Not to be eclipsed by the star power in the room, Style’s pristine fleet of GM vehicles will captivate the audience with the world debut of a concept vehicle.”

The first-ever GM Style will showcase 17 GM vehicles. Additional details on the event as well as a full list of vehicles will be unveiled at a later date. Confirmed already are:

2006 Camaro Concept – Unveiled to rave reviews from around the world last January, the award-winning Chevrolet Camaro Concept combines dramatic design and exciting performance. A thoroughly modern interpretation of the classic sport coupe, the Chevrolet Camaro Concept recaptures the spirit of one of the most popular sport coupes of all time and redefines the Camaro for new generations of fans.

1951 Buick LeSabre Concept -- One of the most famous concept cars of all time, the Buick LeSabre concept was designed under supervision of GM Design Icon Harley J. Earl. The car took styling cues from jet fighter planes, and Earl personally drove the car for years. Among a myriad of technologies revolutionary at the time, the LeSabre concept could raise its own convertible top if it began raining when the owner was away from the car. Under the watchful eye of Welburn, GM recently restored this automotive icon at their Design Center in Warren , Mich. , the same facility where the vehicle was created.

2006 Pontiac Solstice Weekend Club Racer Concept – A Detroit debut, GM Performance Division built the Solstice Weekend Club Racer concept to showcase how a racing version of the car might be configured. With a custom bronze paint job, power for the car comes from a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine rated at 325 horsepower.

2006 Saab Aero X Concept – Another Detroit debut, the Saab Aero X concept harnesses the power of Saab's aviation and Scandinavian roots to make a unique statement in performance car design. Saab Aero X adopts a cockpit canopy, just as you would see on a jet aircraft. It offers the Aero X pilot full 180 degree vision. The Aero X concept, powered by a 400 hp BioPower engine using 100 percent ethanol fuel, made its world premiere at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show and its North American debut at the 2006 New York Auto Show.

2007 Saturn Sky Red Line – After being unveiled at the 2006 New York Auto Show, the Saturn Sky Red Line went on to critical acclaim and is now reaching Saturn retailers. The Saturn Sky Red Line boasts one of the most powerful engines (260 hp/260 foot-pounds of torque) GM has ever produced based on its size (2L). Its 0 to 60 mph time is just over five seconds, and Edmunds.com called it “the most interesting blend of style and performance.”

FEDERAL WAY, Wash., -- Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE:WY) has announced that challenging market conditions necessitate further actions, which could include closures, curtailments and restricted operating postures at softwood lumber, engineered lumber and structural panels operations across North America.

Downtime and restricted operating postures have already been undertaken at about 70 percent of Weyerhaeuser residential wood products facilities. These curtailments have led to significant fourth quarter production decreases across all product lines.

"Demand for wood products is very weak," said Steven R. Rogel, chairman, president and chief executive officer. "We continue to analyze our operating postures and portfolio and expect additional capacity adjustments in the near term.

SEATTLE, Dec. 06, 2006 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and Deutsche Lufthansa AG today announced the carrier ordered 20 747-8 Intercontinental jetliners plus 20 purchase rights. Lufthansa is the first airline to place an order for the passenger version of the fuel-efficient airplane.

The Lufthansa order, with a total average list-price value of $5.5 billion, is scheduled for delivery beginning in 2010. This order is a primary component of the airline's plan to modernize its fleet and increase environmental stewardship.

"Lufthansa operates one of the youngest and most environmentally friendly fleets in the world," said Scott Carson, president and chief executive officer, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The Bank of New York Company, Inc. and Mellon Financial Corporation Agree to Merge

Create the Global Leader in Securities Servicing and Asset Management.

Merger Combines Highly Complementary Businesses Positioned for Strong Global Growth.

NEW YORK and PITTSBURGH, Dec. 4 -- The Bank of New York Company, Inc. (NYSE:BK) and Mellon Financial Corporation (NYSE:MEL) announced today they have entered into a definitive agreement to merge, creating the largest securities servicing and asset management firm globally.

The new company, which will be called The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, will be the world's leading asset servicer with $16.6 trillion in assets under custody and corporate trustee with $8 trillion in assets under trusteeship, and will rank among the top 10 global asset managers with more than $1.1 trillion in assets under management.

Thomas A. Renyi, currently chairman and chief executive of The Bank of New York, will serve as executive chairman of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation for 18 months following the close of the transaction with overall responsibility for the integration of the two companies.

Robert P. Kelly, currently president, chairman and chief executive officer of Mellon, will serve as chief executive officer of the new company and will succeed Mr. Renyi as chairman of the board. Gerald L. Hassell, currently president of The Bank of New York, will hold the same position in the new company. The board of directors will comprise 10 members designated by The Bank of New York and eight members designated by Mellon. The new company's headquarters will be based in New York City while maintaining a strong and growing presence in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Renyi said: "We are creating one of the world's leading financial services growth companies. Both our companies focus their businesses in highly attractive sectors of the financial services industry. Together, we will be the global leader in securities servicing, and one of the top providers of asset and wealth management worldwide. Mr. Kelly said: "The merger creates an extraordinarily strong and rapidly growing global competitor in our core businesses. Through this merger, we will be able to invest and expand more effectively than any of our competitors due to our combined scale, profitability and global reach. The organic growth of our respective companies is already strong, and the cost savings and revenue synergies opportunities are excellent. Together, we will have the best service in the world, strong investment performance and the highest fiduciary standards."

Mr. Renyi continued: "We will be fully focused on delivering the high quality service our customers deserve as we create rewarding opportunities for our employees and superior returns for our shareholders. In addition, our balanced business mix and widespread geographic diversification will position us to move and manage our clients' assets with the proven expertise and experience that few global companies can match."

Mr. Kelly added: "Today's action is clearly in the best long-term interests of our customers, shareholders and employees, as well as the city of Pittsburgh, where we will increase our very strong commitment to the community. We expect Pittsburgh to be home for several business divisions, as well as making it a center of excellence for technology, operations and administration."

Under the terms of the agreement, The Bank of New York's shareholders will receive 0.9434 shares in the new company for each share of The Bank of New York that they own and Mellon shareholders will receive one share in the new company for each Mellon share they own. The Bank of New York and Mellon have entered into mutual stock option agreements for 19.9% of the issuer's outstanding common stock.

The transaction has been unanimously approved by each company's board of directors and is expected to be completed early in the third quarter of 2007, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals. Assuming the achievement of planned synergies, on a GAAP basis the transaction is expected to be 1.0% dilutive to The Bank of New York's operating earnings in 2007, and 1.4% accretive in 2008; it will be 1.0% accretive to Mellon's operating earnings in 2007, and 5.7% accretive in 2008. On a cash basis, which excludes the impact of non-cash items such as the amortization of intangibles, the transaction is expected to be 1.1% accretive to The Bank of New York's earnings in 2007, and 5.3% accretive in 2008; it will be 4.5% accretive to Mellon's earnings in 2007, and 11.9% accretive in 2008.

The combined company today has annual revenues of more than $12 billion, with approximately 28% derived from asset servicing, 38% from issuer services, clearing services and treasury services, and 29% from asset management and private wealth management. It will be well positioned to capitalize on global growth trends, including the evolution of emerging markets, the growth of hedge funds and alternative asset classes, the increasing need for more complex financial products and services, and the increasingly global need for people to save and invest for retirement. Almost a quarter of combined revenue will be derived internationally. With a combined pro forma market capitalization of approximately $43 billion, The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation would become the 11th largest U.S. financial institution.

The companies expect to reduce total pre-tax costs by approximately $700 million per year, or approximately 8.5% of the estimated 2006 combined expense base. The integration will be undertaken by a dedicated and experienced group of senior executives in a thoughtful and deliberate manner over a three year period following the close of the transaction. The transaction will involve restructuring charges of approximately $1.3 billion.

The companies' combined employee base of 40,000 is expected to be reduced by approximately 3,900 over a three-year period following the transaction. The companies will reduce headcount through normal attrition wherever possible and will provide extensive support to employees impacted by the merger.

The Bank of New York was represented in the transaction by the investment banking firm of Goldman Sachs and the law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell. Mellon was represented by the investment banking firms of UBS Investment Bank and Lazard and the law firms of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and Reed Smith LLP.

GM Wins First Place in Blue Sky Concept Design

The HUMMER O2 two-dimensional Blue Sky Concept offers rugged capability, a 'tread lightly' contact system and construction methods promoting safety, accessibility and re-usability. For example, the HUMMER 02 Concept features a revolutionary phototropic body shell that produces pure oxygen throughout the lifespan of the vehicle. Algae-filled body panels transform harmful carbon dioxide into pure oxygen that is subsequently released back into the environment and inside the vehicle. Four modular and self-contained fuel cells power hydraulic motors are built into each wheel, and to reduce environmental impact, the HUMMER O2's construction utilizes 100 percent post-consumer materials.

LOS ANGELES – GM Advanced Design has won the Los Angeles Auto Show’s Design Challenge for the second year in a row. This year’s winning entry is a two-dimensional rendering of a 2015 Blue Sky Concept that addresses environmental sustainability. Called the HUMMER 02, this design proves that daily use of a vehicle could result in a net gain for the environment.

The 2006 Design Challenge theme is Environmental Sustainability, a challenge for design studios to transform the future of driving into an environmental experience. Contest guidelines also required that vehicle entries be 100-percent recyclable and have a maximum lifespan of just 60 months.

Designers at GM’s West Coast Advanced Design Studio in Southern California tackled the far-reaching challenge – to develop a concept that resulted in a net gain for the environment. The GM team crafted an entry that surpasses the contest’s sustainability principles: the HUMMER O2 Concept.

“The HUMMER O2 epitomizes the ethos of the true Southern California outdoors enthusiast with rugged capability, a ‘tread lightly’ contact system and construction methods promoting safety, accessibility and reusability,” said Frank Saucedo, director, GM Advanced Design in California . “Most vehicles in L.A. spend 95 percent of their time outdoors subjected to sunlight, so why couldn’t a vehicle give back?”

To fully understand the HUMMER O2, the GM team believes that terms commonly associated with ecology and biology work best.

Photosynthesis

The HUMMER 02 Concept features a revolutionary phototropic body shell that produces pure oxygen throughout the life of the vehicle. Algae-filled body panels transform carbon dioxide into pure oxygen that is subsequently released back into the environment and inside the vehicle.

“The panels essentially function as the ‘leaves’ of the HUMMER O2 and effectively clean the air in the surrounding environment,” said Saucedo. “Used algae are recycled as biomass for the further production of energy.”

Breathing

The HUMMER 02 promotes the production of oxygen by a two-way valve system in the corner of each panel. The sophisticated devices control and monitor the amount of carbon dioxide and source nutrition needed for the algae cultivation while optimizing oxygen production and distribution.

Energy

Four modular and self-contained fuel cells power hydraulic motors built into each wheel. A hydrogen tank is placed in an ideal central location for safety and structural purposes, becoming the “heart” of the vehicle.

Footprint

Active Tread TM tires provide low resistance on the highway while allowing excellent off-road progress as their shape changes – adapting to and protecting the surrounding environment.

Structure

Finally, to further reduce environmental impact, the HUMMER O2’s construction specifies the use of 100-percent post-consumer materials, including an aluminum frame, seats finished with Volatile Organic Components-free (VOC-free) materials and glazing via PETE (similar to everyday consumer packaging, such as soda bottles).

The GM West Coast Advanced Design Studio won the 2005 Design Challenge competition with its GMC PAD Concept, a mobile urban loft designed for the L.A. environment.
